Evening of Entertainment for Fire Evacuees
On Sunday, August 6th at 7 PM, Sicamous United Church sponsored an Evening of Entertainment in support of the B.C. fire evacuees. The event included a Dessert Bar, Silent Auction, and a variety of entertainment. A big thank you to the entertainers – Sicamous Ukulele Group, Brendan Rogers and Joanne Cunningham, Patrick Halligan, Allison Gelling, the Shukuleles, Bernice Hyam, Lorna from Curly Willow Farm, and Steve Naylor, Jim McConnell and Juanita Austin.
The desserts were delicious and plentiful and the silent auction had something for everyone. Thank you so much to everyone who baked, made phone calls, set up the auction and tables, donated and bought items and cleaned up at the end of the evening.
Originally we were planning a fund-raiser to help finish paying for the new roof we had to put on the sanctuary last year. However, in light of the wild fire situation, we decided it was more important to help those who no longer have a roof over their heads. This summer’s fires remind us all of the fragility of life and how we too can be uprooted from all that is familiar, all that is home. Together we raised $1500.00 which has been forwarded to the Salvation Army in Prince George, designated for fire victim relief.
With gratitude for community generosity,
Rev. Juanita Austin
