Greetings from the New Minister
Hello to the members, adherents and friends of Sicamous United Church. Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Juanita Austin and I am the new minister at Sicamous United Church. After 26 years of full time ministry I am delighted to be working in the community of Sicamous and with the congregation of Sicamous United Church.
I grew up in the small northern community of Ft. Nelson, studied at the University of Victoria and received my Master of Divinity from the Vancouver School of Theology. My student ministry placement was at First United Church Mission on the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. I have served United Church congregations in Worsley, Alberta; and Peachland, Williams Lake, Merritt and Salmon Arm in B.C.
I enjoy photography, traveling & music, – playing guitar and singing in church and with the Black and Bluez Band with my husband, Jim McConnell, who plays saxophone and taught school in Sicamous for 22 years. Between the two of us we have four adult children and two grandchildren.
I will generally be in the church office on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and will lead worship on Sunday mornings. Please drop in and introduce yourself and have a chat, or give me a phone call and I will be happy to visit in your home, local coffee shop etc. I am available for pastoral care & counselling to congregants and community members alike, A.A. 5th step program, and am planning on a weekly or seasonal Bible or book study. I look forward to being in ministry with you.
Blessings, Rev. Juanita Austin
